Leadership

Leadership, effective leadership to be more precise, is essential to the long-term success of any organization. This statement, while quite true, leads to numerous questions, including:

  • What is leadership?

  • What does it take to be an effective leader?

  • What’s the difference between a leader and a manager?

The answers to these and many other questions about leadership are neither simple nor easy. In fact, the late Bernard M Bass, leadership expert, noted the following: “Different definitions and concept of leadership have been presented in countless essays and discussions. Often, a two-day meeting to discuss leadership has started with a day of argument over the definition of leadership.” (Bass, B. M. (2008)). The difficulty in defining leadership notwithstanding, effective leadership is the key factor in the successful operation, and long-term success, of any organization. The following courses will assist in creating effective leaders and in making effective leaders outstanding leaders.

Leadership – Basic concepts

Effective Leadership is critical to the success of any organization. As is effective Management. All too often, these terms are incorrectly used interchangeably. While both functions are critical to organizations’ success, they are separate and distinct function.

How a leader leads (leadership style) is an important factor in leaders’ effectiveness. Another important factor in leaders’ effectiveness is how a leader attracts followers (leadership powerbases).

Why is it that some managers, who have authority over people’s job assignments and salaries, never generate any loyalty among their subordinates?
